Programs

What we offer

Three programmes that take Khaldun scholars from application to graduate study and beyond. All three are designed and delivered by volunteers — current and former scholars.

Scholarship support

The most concrete thing we do. We cover the upfront costs that often keep promising applicants from applying at all:

  • GRE, IELTS, and TOEFL exam fees
  • University application fees
  • For exceptional candidates: airfare and settling-in support

We can't cover tuition. The intent is to remove the barrier to applying, so candidates can compete for full or partial university scholarships at the programmes they're admitted to.

Mentoring and counselling

Applying to graduate school in the social sciences from the Global South is hard, and most applicants have nobody around who has done it. Khaldun matches new applicants with alumni who have:

  • SOP and writing-sample review
  • Programme-fit advice — where to apply, what to read
  • Interview preparation
  • Ongoing peer-advisor relationships after admission

Professional development

Once scholars are in graduate programmes, the work changes. We organise:

  • Workshops and webinars on skills useful across disciplines
  • Orientation sessions for incoming cohorts
  • Summer retreats to deepen the network and engage with the Islamic intellectual tradition

The aim is to support scholars into becoming authority figures in their fields — not just degree holders.
